South of Cherry Creek Reservoir Rating: Death Wish! Short Review: Narrow with a white-line shoulder. Fast, heavy traffic (55mph). Broken road surface at intersections. Whoever included it in the Bicycling Metro Denver Route Map needs to try to ride it someday. Detailed Review: Jordan Road connects the south end of Cherry Creek Reservoir to the 470 Bikeway. To get on it, find the trailhead to the Cherry Creek Trail on the South side of the reservoir. The trail will come within five feet of Jordan Road. A gate with an opening for waking and bikes allows easy access. According to the DBTC map, it has a bike path running along side of it. The only hint is a sidewalk along a mile of the road in a development. The rest of the road is narrow with no shoulder and a fair amount of traffic. The road narrows even further right now as some construction on the side of the road creates a short detour. And to make matters worse, on one intersection, I had to bounce through some broken section of the road as I tried to get back to the paved shoulder. Harrowing with 7,000 pounds of diesel driven heavy duty truck is less than a foot away with no room of its own! |
